PALO ALTO, CA — Andy Cunningham has left Citigate Cunningham, three years after Incepta acquired the tech-focused Cunningham Communication. Cunningham is returning to her roots by going back into business for herself. She has spun Cunningham's CXO group out of the firm, and will preside over her new agency, CXO Communication, as president and CEO.

"I'm really an entrepreneur," said Cunningham, who started her agency in 1985. In November, Cunningham launched CXO, which at the time was part of Incepta. She served as CEO of both Citigate Cunningham and CXO. But while she led operations at CXO, president Paul Bergevin oversaw Citigate Cunningham. Cunningham said she sees CXO as a specialized consultancy focused on the communications challenges and opportunities of corporate executives.

The now privately held CXO will maintain a relationship with Incepta and Citigate Cunningham, as Incepta retains a 25% ownership interest. Current CXO clients include Cisco Systems, AMD, and E*TRADE.
