Andy Cunningham is founder, chairman and CEO of CXO Communication, a privately held strategic communication consultancy founded in 2003 focused on branding, public relations and interactive marketing. Based in Palo Alto, CA, the firm creates and executes communication strategies for corporate and community leadership. Some of the firm’s clients past and present clients include: Adobe, AMD, EAA, Eclipse Aviation, JDS Uniphase, LeapFrog, PRTM, RSA (now part of EMC), Specialized, Splunk, Sun Microsystems, University of California at San Francisco, and XOJet.

Prior to founding CXO Communication, Andy was founder and CEO of Citigate Cunningham (formerly Cunningham Communication, Inc.), a public relations agency she founded in 1985 to serve the high technology industry. During her tenure as CEO, the agency represented many of the world’s leading high technology corporations including AMD, Apple Computer, Cisco Systems, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Informix, Kodak, Motorola, Oracle, Pitney-Bowes, Sun Microsystems and Xerox.

Andy sits on the following non-profit boards: The Aspen Institute (member audit and marketing committees, member board of overseers of the Henry Crown Fellowship, chairman of the Henry Crown Fellowship Convocation on Leadership committee); the Computer History Museum (chairman of the marketing committee) and ZeroOne: The Art & Technology Network (founder and chairman).

In addition, she serves on the advisory boards of EAA, Specialized Bicycle Components; The Mooney Airplane Company and the Journal of Integrated Communications at Northwestern University. She is also an Aspen Institute Henry Crown Fellow (class of 2000), and holds memberships in the NorCal chapter of YPO, the Committee of 200, the Arthur W. Page Society and TED.

Formerly she was a member of the international board of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), a NorCal YPO chapter president (1998/99) and a board member of the YPO Pacific Region. In addition, she formerly served on the board of the Council of PR Firms and was a trustee at the Nueva School.

Prior to founding Cunningham Communication, Andy was a group account manager at Regis McKenna, Inc. where she led the team that launched the Macintosh and an account executive at Burson-Marsteller where she worked on a number of high technology accounts.

Andy received a BA in English from Northwestern University in 1979 and currently resides in Palo Alto, CA with her husband, Rand Siegfried, and their two children, McKinley and Cormac.

At CXO, Kathleen specializes in defining and rolling out brand strategy platforms and integrated marketing campaigns for companies ranging from start ups to Fortune 100 brands. Kathleen is currently leading the integrated marketing roll out of Generation Cures, a groundbreaking new philanthropic program founded by Children’s Hospital Boston.

Prior to joining CXO, Kathleen was a managing director at Citigate Cunningham, a public relations firm known for its strategic work with the world’s most respected technology companies. During her 10 years at Citigate Cunningham, Kathleen was responsible for delivering business-critical communication services to brand name accounts, and helped set the agency’s standards for new business and product development. Earlier in her career at Citigate Cunningham, Kathleen founded the firm’s Digital Consumer Practice and led consumer-focused campaigns for companies including Atari, Cisco Systems, Creative Labs, Edmark, Fast Company, HomePortfolio.com, the Internet Home Alliance, the Interactive Media Festival, Motorola, Sears, Roebuck & Company and Sun Microsystems.

Before joining Citigate Cunningham, Kathleen worked for Weber Shandwick—the world’s largest public relations firm. During her four years at Weber, Kathleen drove public relations programs for clients including Progress Software, Xerox Imaging Systems and Marshall’s Department Stores.

Kathleen holds a bachelor’s degree in public relations and advertising from Emerson College in Boston and heads up CXO’s Boston, Massachusetts office.

Katrinna brings over twelve years of accounting and finance experience to CXO Communication. As Controller, Katrinna is chartered with overseeing CXO’s daily accounting functions, including forecasting and financial reporting.

Prior to CXO, Katrinna was Assistant Controller for Citigate Cunningham (formerly Cunningham Communication in Palo Alto, CA) and Shareholder Relations Accountant for Metcal, Incorporated (formerly in Menlo Park, CA).

Katrinna earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from San Jose State University and resides in Sunnyvale, California with her husband Giovanni and two daughters, Bianca and Chloe.

Morgan’s expertise includes planning and implementing proven communications strategies targeted at key trade and consumer audiences for both product and brand-related initiatives. Her programs have helped increased awareness and sales for worldwide companies including SAP, Sony, Epson and Hilton.

Morgan joined CXO from Burson-Marsteller, a leading global public relations and public affairs firm, where she led the strategic planning, day-to-day media relations and material development for SAP Industries, including their Retail, Utilities, Telecommunications, Media, Professional Services and Logistic Service Providers divisions.

Prior to joining Burson-Marsteller, Morgan supported a number of accounts at Cohn & Wolfe Los Angeles, an international PR agency focused on marketing-related communications. Her work spanned the travel, food & beverage and consumer electronics industries.

Morgan received her BA in Public Relations from the Annenberg School of Journalism at The University of Southern California (USC).

Jeremy Hartman brings CXO Communication clients a depth of experience in helping organizations and their leaders define relevant, credible and influential communication platforms. Jeremy specializes in corporate and executive positioning based on the principles of thought leadership.

Jeremy’s work as a consultant has included:

  • Developed the LeapFrog SchoolHouse brand platform “LeapFrog Learning”
  • Crafted an executive communication platform for Mike Synard, CEO of Specialized Bicycle, on the evolution of the bicycle industry
  • Guided UCSF management and Medical Center Foundation to a singular, unifying brand position and communication strategy
  • Worked directly with Advanced Micro Devices Chairman Jerry Sanders on the development of his “True Innovation” executive platform
  • Collaborated with internal Advanced Micro Devices marketing teams and executives on the launch and corresponding market positioning of their AMD64 line of 64-bit processors
  • Worked closely with Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen and senior marketing executives to develop the “Network Publishing” corporate and executive platform
  • Led 1998 engagement to position Qwest Communications as the world’s leading network for the next generation of network services
  • Significant contributor to original thought leadership content for Cisco CEO John Chamber’s “Internet Economy” executive platform

Prior to returning to CXO, Jeremy served as Director of Strategic Communication at Advanced Micro Devices where he was responsible for creating and managing the executive communication program, developing the communication strategy and content for the Chairman and CEO; and defining and executing a web-based communication strategy for the company’s leadership agenda.

Jeremy’s background originates in politics, where he served as a senior campaign advisor to State and Federal candidates. He earned a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science from Washington University and a Master’s of Integrated Marketing Communication from Northwestern University. While at Northwestern, Jeremy also served as editor-in-chief for the university’s Journal of Integrated Communications. Currently, Jeremy is a member of the Unitus Network of Advisors where he serves as an advisor to the CEO and member of their marketing committee.

Lucy brings CXO a diverse background that spans advertising, brand development, product marketing, event management and public relations. At CXO, Lucy is a key member of the team that is launching Generation Cures, an innovative e-philanthropy initiative for families created by Children’s Hospital Boston. CXO is driving a comprehensive integrated marketing campaign for Generation Cures that includes: brand strategy and messaging, advertising, public relations, social/viral media, events, promotions and internal communications.

Prior to joining CXO, Lucy was an account strategist for NAS Recruitment Communications, where she led recruitment brand strategy and advertising for major telecommunications clients including Verizon. Lucy also managed the development of campus and diversity recruitment campaigns for leading pharmaceutical and healthcare clients. Prior to NAS, Lucy worked at Elite Inc. in Montreal driving product marketing efforts for clients including Target and Kmart USA.

Lucy grew up in Tasmania, Australia and graduated from the University of Tasmania with a major in Communications. She began her career in public relations leading media relations outreach for her University’s PR department and for a major political party.

Lucy works in CXO’s Boston office, which is located in the heart of Boston’s Back Bay on Newbury Street.

Julie has managed strategic communication initiatives for companies across a broad set of industries including the fine arts, higher education, energy and tourism. She works with clients to create strategic communication plans that support sales and marketing goals in the most cost-effective manner. Her career as a communication consultant has included:

  • Devising a communications strategy for Reno-based Mariah Power, a renewable energy start-up launching a small wind power appliance. Julie publicized funding rounds and product development milestones, created website content, set up meetings for the CEO with key senators and congressmen in D.C., and generated timely consumer and trade media placements around key product development milestones.
  • Promoting institutions of higher learning to potential students and their parents via targeted publicity campaigns. While working at Boston University, Julie publicized the research of professors and secured placements on their work in such outlets as TIME and Working Mother magazines. While working on behalf of Johnson & Wales University, Julie executed a media relations program for the school’s gold medal-winning Student Culinary Olympic Team, generating targeted media coverage along the Eastern Seaboard to increase average session attendance by 25% over the previous year.
  • As director of public relations, Julie internally managed PR programs for two premier Boston hotels, Le Meridien Boston (now the Langham Hotel) and the Boston Park Plaza Hotel. Julie’s work included creating and publicizing revenue-generating hotel packages and food and beverage promotions, as well as managing the properties’ community relations programs. Julie’s overall PR efforts resulted in favorable press in media outlets including: Boston Globe, Conde Nast Traveler, Food & Wine, International Herald Tribune, National Public Radio, New York Times, Robb Report, and Travel + Leisure.
  • Serving as assistant director of corporate relations for the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Julie developed and executed strategies for cultivating and securing $1 million-plus corporate gifts as part of the MFA’s $500 million campaign. In addition to researching and developing corporate solicitation strategies, Julie served as liaison to the marketing and public affairs departments of corporate donors to manage their gifts, sponsorships and named giving opportunities. She also managed the Museum’s 140-member Corporate Partners program that generated $1 million in annual revenue and had a 90% retention rate.

Julie’s other clients have included: CIO Magazine, CVS Pharmacy, Northeast Regional Marriott Hotels, Rhode Island State Tourism and Rockland Trust Bank. Julie holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Boston College and is based in CXO’s Boston, Massachusetts office.

Annie brings to CXO Communication 18 years of strategic marketing experience with Bay Area Fortune 500 companies and start-ups in a variety of categories. Specializing in launching emerging category brands, brand strategy, product marketing and consumer advertising, Annie began her career in account management at San Francisco ad agencies Chiat/Day on the Nissan account and Hal Riney & Partners as a member of the Saturn launch team. She then migrated to the client side and managed brand and marketing work for AAA, record label Real Music, retail start-up and NASCAR licensee, Silicon Entertainment, healthcare start-up CareGuide, ChevronTexaco’s subsidiary Chevron Energy Solutions and most recently at Yahoo!

As a Director of Marketing at Yahoo!, Annie managed the 2003 launch of online dating brand Yahoo! Personals via a national ad campaign, which netted $2.6M incremental revenue and won a bronze Effie advertising award. Charged with diversity marketing, she then drove the TV ad campaign effort supporting the Hispanic Personals launch, garnering Ad Age’s Hispanic Gold Award. Later, Annie was tapped to lead the Search team’s brand strategy and product naming/positioning for Yahoo!’s most significant 2006 product launch—“Yahoo! Answers.”

At Chevron Energy Solutions, developed a lead generation “Self-Generation Assessment” product, driving conversion and 20% sales revenue growth, was an active member of the strategic planning team dedicated to renewable energies partnerships, and consulted with Senior management on brand / marketing strategies to drive emerging category awareness and brand differentiation.

As Director Brand Marketing, launched senior care management start-up, CareGuide, developing cross-channel advertising and brand strategy including consumer research, brand identity, positioning, nomenclature, messaging.

Launched emerging category retail entertainment brand, NASCAR Motor Speedway, via brand identity/positioning initiative and marketing promotion designed to drive awareness, and consumer traffic/retention across 11-retail store network and web site.

At AAA’s 4-million member Northern California chapter as Senior Manager of Integrated Marketing, Annie managed the first-ever brand re-positioning to contemporize the 4M-Member brand via a multi-million dollar ad campaign, successfully driving awareness of AAA’s breadth of services and garnering AAA’s corporate Marketing award.

Andy Steen is the Vice President of Operations for CXO Communication. She is responsible for finance, administration, facilities and the office of the CEO coordination.

Previously Andy held positions at Cisco Systems where she helped manage the client crisis room and Specialized Bicycles where she oversaw direct marketing operations. Andy began working with CXO Communication CEO, Andy Cunningham 11 years ago at Citigate Cunningham, (formerly Cunningham Communication), a high tech PR firm in Silicon Valley.

Andy began her career at Aetna Realty & Company where she led the Operations team for eight years. Aetna Realty is a retirement investment real estate investment firm based in Hartford, CT.

Andy is a dance director for the Doize’ Dream Team in San Jose, and currently resides in Gilroy, California with her husband and three children

Joan MacNeil Stone brings over 15 years of communication consulting experience to CXO Communication and specializes in developing and leading strategic public relations initiatives. She is responsible for providing communication strategy and counsel based on CXO’s positioning and messaging recommendations.

Before joining CXO Communication, Joan MacNeil Stone most recently served as a senior director with A&R Partners, an independent PR agency. Joan worked with A&R for 18 months primarily serving as a senior resource on the Adobe account, working with Adobe’s enterprise business unit.

Prior to A&R Partners, Joan spent over twelve years at Citigate Cunningham, a high-technology PR agency. Prior to her departure, Joan served as managing director in Citigate Cunningham’s Strategic Public Relations Group and managed the Sun Microsystems account from inception in April 2001 to September 2002. The account included Sun’s corporate business, the Software Systems Group, Analyst Relations and International PR as well as other projects.

Prior to her work with Sun Microsystems, Joan served as vice president overseeing the Hewlett-Packard account team and played a lead communications role in HP’s e-services initiative. Prior to HP, Joan oversaw the Cisco Systems account and was involved in the development of executive thought leadership platforms, business press outreach and many corporate and product communication initiatives.

Earlier in her Citigate Cunningham career, Joan spent more than six years with the Motorola Semiconductor account team, driving public relations programs and marketing communications campaigns. Her experience with Motorola included working on Motorola’s Powered By Motorola brand campaign as well as driving public relations programs for Motorola’s digital signal processing, microprocessing and microcontroller product lines.

During her twelve years at Citigate Cunningham Joan contributed to the client side of the business as well as playing an important role in marketing the agency, internal communications programs, Citigate Cunningham’s Momentum Management positioning process and many other agency efforts.

Prior to joining Citigate Cunningham, Joan was a marketing communications manager with Signetics, a semiconductor manufacturer owned by Philips.

Joan holds a liberal studies degree in communications, social science and political science from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
